Hi, I'm Jen. The founder of Ashtanga Central, the global hub for Ashtanga Yoga. I'm also the creator of The Yoga Mentorship ProgramIntroduction To Ashtanga, and the hugely popular Pilates For Yogis. I've trained thousands of students across the globe.

I've been teaching Ashtanga yoga for 15 years. I had a thriving Mysore program in Washington, DC that I directed for over eight years. I taught and trained under Tim Miller at the Ashtanga Yoga Center in Carlsbad, CA.

I've practiced under the most senior teachers in Ashtanga Yoga, I've made multiple trips to India, and logged tens of thousands of hours practicing. And  I am going to share all this knowledge that I have accumulated over the past twenty years with you in the Primary Series Interactice.

I believe that the transformative effects of Ashtanga Yoga are for everyone has been the cornerstone of my highly acclaimed in-person trainings, retreats, and coaching.

I am taking all of my experience to create an easy-to-follow roadmap designed to help you deepen your Ashtanga practice. This six-week course provides a deep dive into both the physical, energetic, and spiritual aspects of the Second Series of Ashtanga Yoga.

WEEK ONE

Now: Nadi Shodhana

Ever wonder why Intermediate Series leaves you feeling so different than Primary Series? In week one you'll learn the about how Intermediate Series works and what you can do in Primary Series to get ready for it.

Course work will include applying the fundamentals and keys in Primary Series to postures in Intermediate Series.

WEEK TWO

Backbends of Intermediate

Explore the backbends of Intermediate Series in week two. You'll learn modifications and how to use props, tap into strength, and go deeper into your backbend. Plus you will have an opportunity to share videos of your own backbends for us to analyze together and look for ways to improve them.

WEEK THREE

Transitions and Deep Hip Opening

This week we will talk about the transition poses that link the back-bending section to the hip-opening section. 

We will discuss prana and apana patterns in the body and postures.

WEEK FOUR

Taking Flight!

Do you struggle with strength? There are periodic checks for lightness throughout Intermediate Series. And these checks keep you honest about your strength. This week you'll learn how to breakdown the hardest postures into manageable steps. And you'll learn strength drills to do to make the impossible, possible.

WEEK FIVE

Stay Open

After all the strengthening you might feel your shoulders start to tighten up. This section of Intermediate makes sure you maintain flexibility.

Finally, you'll explore the seven deadlies. Your final check on your central axis is saved for last. Find out why these postures are critical to your practice.

WEEK SIX

Final Backbends and Closing Postures

Delve into the final backbend sequence. But, it's grown up. Learn the techniques to make your backbend comfortable and sustainable while adding a new degree of difficulty.

Let the sweet residue of the practice settle in through a thorough exploration of the closing sequence.

This interactive in-depth study will introduce you to every single pose in the Intermediate Series of Ashtanga Yoga.

 

  • There is no promise that you will catch your heels in kapotasana by the end of this course, but you will have a better understanding of the energetics and the progression of the postures in the Intermediate Series of Ashtanga Yoga.

  • Need help on how to introduce Intermediate Series to your students? Or want to integrate more postures into your own practice? You'll learn steps to work for every pose.

  • Be held accountable, get personalized feedback and instruction, ask questions, and have access to me! It's like being in the Mysore room.
  • Connect through weekly live Zoom calls. These interactive calls allow you to ask questions, meet other students, and have real time discussions.

Frequently Asked Questions

Of course I'd love to see you on the live calls. But, I know that we all have lives outside of our yoga practice! You can submit questions in advance. All calls will be recorded and the recordings will be posted on the course website - so you can watch them at your convenience.

You should be comfortable with the primary series of Ashtanga yoga.

The course is six weeks long. There are six weeks worth of prerecorded videos. There is a live call every week of the course to discuss what you watched.

There will be videos and practice prompts assigned to you each week of the course. And you will have a little pre-course work.

No problem. We will build a solid foundation, break down the poses step by step so you have lots to work with, and make connections to primary series.

Plus, you will have access to all the videos for one full year, so you can go back and review as your practice progresses.

This course is still for you!

We are never really "finished" with a series anyhow. There is always more to learn, especially as things continue to shift and change. 

This course will help you make connections between Intermediate Series and Primary as well as Advanced Series - so you can extract more from your current practice.
