What is it?
Ashtanga Yoga Practice Renewal is a five-day Intensive. The objective is to focus on practice and deepen one's understanding of Ashtanga Yoga. We will do this through Mysore practice, pranayama, chanting, and asana theory. The asana will focus on the Second Series, but we will make connections to both Primary and Third Series.
Where is the intensive?
The intensive will be held at Playgrounded in Carlsbad, CA. Playgrounded is close to coffee shops and walking distance to the beach. October is a beautiful time of year in SoCal. The crowds are gone, and the weather is perfect. Carlsbad is on the beach and just 30 miles from San Diego. Space is limited to 15 students.

The intensive begins at 7:30 on October 2. You will want to arrive the night before if you are not local. The retreat ends Sunday, October 6, at 2:45 pm. Please plan travel accordingly. The nearest airport is San Diego International. There are plenty of hotels in Carlsbad and Encinitas, and both are lovely places to visit. I can try to coordinate people who are looking for roommates. Please ask if you are interested.
The afternoon sessions will include Vedic Chanting, Yoga Sutras, and asana. We will focus on the Second Series of Ashtanga, but make connections and ties to the Primary Series and Third Series. As always, I will do my best to make this intensive appropriate for a variety of levels.

Student Testimonials
Allison
Jen helped me find several new postures that I could do without fear and add energy to my practice again. I am using the retreat, the beautiful energy of all the participants, and Jen’s teaching to add joy and discovery back to my practice and not see it as a crutch but as a challenge again.
Danielle
Jen does an amazing job making this practice accessible. I felt like my practice needed a jolt after slacking off since lockdown. Jen offers great feedback and detailed cues, even without physical adjustments. "Mat in the Middle" is a genius workshop where practitioners bring up asanas or transitions they're working on, making the questions relatable and transferable to others. I loved this workshop as it provided valuable insights on asanas I didn't realize I needed support with.
Barbra
It was fantastic to have the chance to practice in a small group setting in person with Jen! She is a very seasoned and thoughtful practitioner and teacher, who accommodates all body types and skill levels. I appreciate her gentle nudging when she knows that you can do more :) Her knowledge of pranayama and Sanskrit (chanting) is also valuable and add to the physical practice of asana.
