Deepen your understanding of the Ashtanga Yoga Second Series through this 6 week course. This interactive online in-depth study of the Second Series will break down each pose while building up your confidence – in your practice, your teaching, and in yourself.
This course includes instructional videos of each posture of the Second Series of Ashtanga. I will engage with you over interactive calls using Zoom to discuss the assigned videos and give you the opportunity to ask questions and discuss your practice. There will be workshop style practices and guided classes so that you can put skill in action. This program will help you make steady progress in your practice, get unstuck, while having fun.
A private Facebook group will give you the chance to share videos of your practice for critique and feedback from me and to learn from each other's experiences. Students will be assigned small groups for accountability and peer mentorship.
There is no promise that you will catch your heels in kapotasana by the end of this course, but you will understand the energetics and the progression of the postures in the Second Series of Ashtanga Yoga.
This six will course will help you feel empowered by Second Series and how much you can do! You'll learn how to modify and use props, truly making Intermediate Series accessible for all.
This course counts for 30 Yoga Alliance Continuing Education Credits.

Discussion and Practice
Ever wonder why Second Series leaves you feeling so different than Primary Series? In week one you'll learn the about how Second Series works and what you can do in Primary Series to get ready for it.
Course work will include applying the fundamentals and keys in Primary Series to postures in Second Series.
WEEK TWO
Backbends of Second
Practice and Q&A
Explore the backbends of Second Series in week two. You'll learn modifications and how to use props, tap into strength, and go deeper into your backbend. Plus you will have an opportunity to share videos of your own backbends for us to analyze together and look for ways to improve them.
WEEK THREE
Transitions and Deep Hip Opening
Practice and Q&A
This week we will talk about the transition poses that link the back-bending section to the hip-opening section.
We will discuss prana and apana patterns in the body and postures.

Taking Flight!

Do you struggle with strength? There are periodic checks for lightness throughout Second Series. And these checks keep you honest about your strength. This week you'll learn how to breakdown the hardest postures into manageable steps. And you'll learn strength drills to do to make the impossible, possible.

After all the strengthening you might feel your shoulders start to tighten up. This section of Second makes sure you maintain flexibility.
Finally, you'll explore the seven deadlies. Your final check on your central axis is saved for last. Find out why these postures are critical to your practice.

Final Backbends and Closing Postures
Discussion and Practice
Delve into the final backbend sequence. But, it's grown up. Learn the techniques to make your backbend comfortable and sustainable while adding a new degree of difficulty.
Let the sweet residue of the practice settle in through a thorough exploration of the closing sequence.
Each Live Training class will start at 9:00 am PST and last approximately 1 hour and 45 minutes. It will be 90 minutes of practice and 15 minutes of Q&A.

Hi, I'm Jen. The founder of Ashtanga Central, the global hub for Ashtanga Yoga. I'm also the creator of The Yoga Mentorship Program, Introduction To Ashtanga, and the hugely popular Pilates For Yogis. I've trained thousands of students across the globe.
I've been teaching Ashtanga yoga for 15 years. I had a thriving Mysore program in Washington, DC that I directed for over eight years. I taught and trained under Tim Miller at the Ashtanga Yoga Center in Carlsbad, CA.
I've practiced under the most senior teachers in Ashtanga Yoga, I've made multiple trips to India, and logged tens of thousands of hours practicing. And I am going to share all this knowledge that I have accumulated over the past twenty years with you in the Primary Series Interactive.
